About Us
Welcome to Harvard Women’s Wrestling Club – where passion, strength, and unity collide on the wrestling mat. We are more than just a team; we are a close-knit family of athletes who are dedicated to growing our community and providing opportunities for women to wrestle at Harvard and beyond. Join us in our journey to redefine boundaries, challenge stereotypes, and empower the next generation of wrestlers!
Practices are held on Tuesdays and Thursdays, 7:00-8:30 p.m. in the Malkin Athletic Center Wrestling Room (located on the third floor).
Founded in 2019, Harvard Women’s Wrestling Club embarked on a journey that has been marked by resilience, determination, and unwavering dedication. When the COVID-19 pandemic forced the world to adapt, our club pivoted to virtual practices, providing athletes opportunities to build their skills and learn the sport’s history. Now, with in-person practices held twice weekly, we continue to grow the presence of women’s wrestling at Harvard. Our members have embraced the opportunity to learn and compete, participating in exhibition matches and tournaments around New England, and hosting our very own clinic featuring instruction from Olympic Gold Medalist Mayu Shidochi. This is just the beginning, and we are excited to see what the future holds for our club and women’s wrestling as a whole.
At HWWC, our mission is to champion the growth of intercollegiate women’s wrestling by offering safe, inclusive, and enjoyable opportunities for women to embrace and excel in this dynamic sport.
We are dedicated to breaking down barriers, empowering athletes, and fostering a supportive community where every member can learn, compete, and thrive.
Wrestling is a sport like no other, and for college-aged women, it offers a unique set of benefits that extend far beyond the mat. Here’s why wrestling is an exceptional choice for women seeking an enriching college experience:
- Empowerment: Wrestling empowers women by building physical strength, mental resilience, and self-confidence. It’s a sport that challenges stereotypes and proves that women can excel in any arena.
- Diversity: Wrestling embraces diversity. No matter your height, weight, or disability status there’s a place for you on the mat. It’s a sport where your determination matters more than your body type.
- Lifelong Skills: Wrestling teaches skills that go beyond the sport itself. You’ll develop discipline, leadership, goal-setting, and teamwork – qualities that will serve you well in academics and your future career.
- Camaraderie: Although wrestling is an individual sport, joining a wrestling team means becoming a part of a tight-knit community. You’ll forge friendships that can last a lifetime, and the support of your teammates will become a source of inspiration.
- Inclusivity: We do not hold tryouts and welcome athletes of all skill levels, from complete beginners to experienced wrestlers, creating a diverse and supportive community.
- Fun and Friendship: While we take our training seriously, we also know how to have a good time. Expect to make lasting friendships and create unforgettable memories.
- Competitive Edge: Our dedicated coaches and unparalleled access to external training opportunities prepare our athletes to excel in competition, from novice tournaments to national championships.
Whether you’re a seasoned wrestler looking to take your skills to the next level, or a complete beginner eager to try something new, we enthusiastically invite you to be a part of our team.
We host practices Tuesday and Thursday, 7:00-8:30 p.m. at the Malkin Athletic Center Wrestling Room. To join the team, all you need to do is show up! Details about gear, competition opportunities, and other important information can be found here.
If you are not an athlete but are interested in supporting our mission as we continue to learn, travel, and compete, information on how to donate can be found here. Our success as a team would not be possible without your generous donations. We greatly appreciate your contribution!
